Garden Offices Can Transform Your House And Freshen Up The Garden

"There is a corner of the garden that is forever unloved," says Guy Henderson, echoing Rupert Brooke and betraying his roots as an English teacher. And When Henderson left teaching and set up his own business designing educational software, it was towards the unloved corner ("resembling a mini council tip") that he looked to in order to solve the issue of where to work.

Determined to cut overheads, Henderson was resolved to work from home but, with four teenagers creating a never-ending whirl of activity around him, the question was: 'Where?'

"I thought about a loft conversion," he explains, "but the time it would have taken and the sheer upheaval, not to mention the expense," meant he became one of a growing number of people who started looking into building offices in their garden. Henderson contacted one of the specialist installers of this latest trend in urban living. A fortnight later, he had his own dedicated office in that 'unloved corner': lined, insulated, double-glazed and spacious. "This place has changed my life", he says of the wooden structure which also boasts a shower-room and doubles as an overspill bedroom when guests come to stay.

The dank old sheds we remember from our childhoods bear no relation to the timber garden buildings of today. Usable 365 days of the year, they are a contemporary solution to the need for extra space which can add up to 20% to the value of your home. Another plus if your office is intended for serious work, is that they are away from the noise and chaos of the main house.

Coming in off-the-peg versions or bespoke designs customised to your needs, your plans are not constrained by the size of your roof space like in a loft conversion. Besides work areas, the rooms may become therapy rooms, gyms, kids play rooms, home cinemas, games rooms or simply as a space to relax and entertain friends in the summer.

For Henderson, the transformation of that unloved corner has not only given him the "perfect working space" but also improved the whole look of the garden. Landscaping work subsequent to the build, also carried out by installers Bakers' Timber, has created a patio/barbecue area which has, according to Henderson, turned the formerly unloved corner into the most popular zone of the house.

To not only make your house more flexible when it comes to working from home, you'll be amazed what building in your garden can do for you and your family. Your new garden space can be multi-functional, so it can be your office as well as your own gym, hobby room, jacuzzi, spare room, or anthing else that takes your fancy!

Loss Assessors: Some Case Studies

What Happens When You Call On An Insurance Loss Assessor: How They Help You Make An Effective Insurance Claim

When you have an incident to your home or business such as a fire, flood, water or storm damage, or theft, you clearly need some help. Once you have reported to the police, it is often a good idea to wait before calling your insurance company – if you want to make a fair claim.

Contacting an insurance loss assessor should be your next step. Your loss assessor deals with your insurance claim on your behalf, and takes care of all contact with your insurance company – and all the people they employ to deal with your claim.

What is the point of an insurance loss assessor? I already have good insurance!
An insurance company makes money from selling insurance policies. They don't want to have to pay out more money than absolutely necessary, and they are experts in reducing the amount of money they pay out on insurance claims. It’s not because insurance companies are bad people, it’s just that they are a business who are obligated to put their shareholders first. They employ professional insurance loss adjusters who spend all day reducing the size of claims. Using your own loss assessor to take over communications with you insurance company can be a smart move.

Truman Associates insurance loss assessors are amongst the most skillful in the UK, and having them on your team means you will get the settlement you deserve. A skilled loss assessor is not just good at reading contracts and reading between the lines; Truman Associates increased a solicitors' settlement by £20,000 when they claimed.

The 10-step Process to Follow When Claiming
Presenting your claim correctly is half the battle, and mistakes early on can severely reduce your chances of an effective settlement. You should follow these steps:
1 – In cases involving criminal activity (such as Theft or Malicious Damage), you should call the police to report the incident.
2 – They will give you a Crime Reference Number;
3 - If possible, you should then call an insurance loss assessor and instruct them to act on your behalf;
4 – Next, visit the scene of the incident with your loss assessor;
5 – Next it's time for your loss assessor to have a thorough read-through of your insurance policy;
6 – Using all the supporting documents and receipts you can supply, the loss assessor helps you to prepare a schedule of the loss;
7 – You then work with your loss assessors to get estimates to replace, repair and recover your loss;
8 – The next step is for your loss assessors to liaise on your behalf with your insurance company's loss adjuster;
9 – Once this process is over, your insurance company pays you the settlement you deserve;
10 – At the end, you pay your loss assessor a pre-agreed proportion of your financial settlement.

Your insurance loss assessors keep you up-to-speed throughout on the claims process; you do not pay the assessors until your insurers have paid you. The reason this system works so well is that Truman Associates are experienced in dealing with insurance claims and know what to look out for. It is important that right from your first phone call to your insurance company after the incident you have your wits about you – if you want to get an effective settlement.

So if the worst happens and you have a fire, flood, theft or storm damage to your home or business, you're not alone. Call Truman Associates loss assessors – it’s only fair.

An Office In Your Own Garden - Makes The Most Of All Your Space

Is it a hassle for you having to get to the office in the morning? No need for transport and traffic jams with a wooden garden office!

The statistics are pretty high for people who work from home, and it is becoming increasingly popular. If space is a problem, have you thought about moving into the garden? An extension or loft conversion isn't necessary to obtain that extra room, it really is much simpler than that. If you have a garden, there is another way – that can not only save you money, but can also increase the value of your home.

Wooden garden offices bring a sense of originality to your work environment. The garden office can be fully insulated and wired up so that a normal working environment can function. It's important to be able to leave work behind which can be easily done when working outside of the house. Why fork out on the expense of a loft conversion or at worst, a sale of your home, when all you need to do is simply think out of the (wooden) box?

The advantages are simple, a fully functioning wooden garden office on your doorstep with the added bonus of it increasing the value of your home! Up to 5% according to some experts, and installing an office in the garden is certainly far cheaper than buying a house with an extra room. It makes perfect sense to consider using your existing space for an office in your garden rather than pay out a high monthly rent on office space. With wooden garden offices being so popular, it really is the next trend in 'Shedworking'

Working in a wooden garden office at home certainly has its advantages.

You can prevent interruptions from the family or pets and they can't invade your workspace. Create more space by freeing up your kitchen and spare room with a wooden garden office. It’s simple and extremely affordable if you are thinking of investing in some extra space.

Make the most of family time by having your spare room back. Or perhaps you need to get away from the noisy kids! Stylish and presentable, wooden garden offices are becoming the best alternative to gaining more space. Additionally, should you decide that you don’t need the wooden garden office after time, it can easily be used as a games room, a gym or an extra sitting room.

Those looking for ideas for a quality wooden garden office should have a look at the offices on the Bakers Timber site.
